Tick tock…the clock goes. The wall clock in the master bathroom has been there all these years. In the recent past, the sound blurred into the background barely noticeable, while I routinely got ready for work in the morning. But today the tick tock sound seems strangely louder. The tick tock sound, drums into my sleep each night. The feeling of restlessness washes over me as I barely remember any of my dreams, night after night. Tick tock the clock goes, as it hangs from the wall in the living room. Tick tock… louder now, tick tock.
As if to say, time as we know it is running out.
There is no debate the year 2020, is like none other. The pandemic is only one major thing that makes this year incredibly unique and unsettling. The economic downfall, civil unrest, violence, horrific wildfires, drought, multiple hurricanes, murder hornets, election irregularities…all of it makes this year far from boring. Tick tock, tick tock…as the clock goes.
Time as we know it, is running out.
Why a Faith Based Focus on HR C-Suite?
As a 30-year experienced HR executive this will be the first year I sat out from the front lines of crisis in my professional corporate role. My job as a corporate healthcare executive was restructured. My job leads rapidly dried up as the economy took a downward spiral.
Plus, someone very close to me suddenly passed away, non-COVID related. I also lost two very close-to-the-heart shelties. I also lost my father to COVID-19. But yet in spite all of this professional and personal upheaval, the clock continues to tick tock relentlessly. And louder now...tick tock.
Typically, I would have allowed myself to be consumed with my corporate job regardless of the world seemingly spinning out of control. I’ve been called a workaholic many times in my professional life. But this year I didn’t have the corporate job to go to, back-to-back meetings to race to, or the multitude of calls to make. Instead, a “pause” was handed to me in the midst of great worldly chaos. It was almost as if I was summoned this year to be calm, observe and write.
The best part of all of this upheaval is God is always the one in control. He doesn’t need a spreadsheet or graphs to see the pathway forward. He doesn’t report to a board of directors or leadership team. He is the Alpha and Omega. He isn’t incentivized by a paycheck or bonuses or worse…bribes or egotistical agendas. He is incentivized by His eternal love for us. He doesn’t need leadership development. He is the ultimate coach, cheering us on and developing us from the inside out!
A Call to Faith Based Leaders
As the tick tock sound is getting louder and time as we know it is running out, faith-based leaders are in a position like none other to lead the way forward in caring for and influencing others in business no matter how large or small. This is intended to inspire and provide resources for those faith-based leaders to help care for and influence the flock of employees, colleagues, vendors, and customers that you come into contact with daily, weekly and monthly.
If you are reading this and not have found faith in Jesus Christ it’s not too late. While it’s true the clocking is ticking away, right now it’s a really good time to ask Christ into your life. Don’t wait. There is no spreadsheet to analyze or presentation to make here. It’s about having a direct relationship with God. Just talk to Him like you are talking to an old friend. Acknowledge that you have sinned, ask for forgiveness and ask Him to come into your heart and life. Hand it all over to Him. Call a Christian friend, family, or pastor and let them know.
Your assignment:
- Where is your faith today?
- Practice seeing the human in the midst of data and FTE counts. Is there someone who can benefit from your knowledge and mentoring?
- Practice standing up for unpopular but the right thing to do decisions.
We’ve all been called here for a purpose. Let’s put on our armor and run into this new business era confidently and victoriously.
Write to me and let me know how you are doing.
