ChatGPT is taking the internet by storm. News of ChatGPT passing various law and business exams has given many to take a closer look. Questions have begun to circulate about what jobs can the artificial intelligence replace.
A further question is will ChatGPT replace HR? HR technology has been hot for quite a few years now. No doubt this new technology will change the HR industry among many other functions. I think the real questions to consider is what tasks in HR might ChatGPT effectively replace? How can HR adopt and adapt to a new era of workplace?
One thing I challenge HR professionals when coaching, is to think about is how to remain relevant in a digital age, changing workplace priorities, and ever-shifting environment. The HR profession has redesigned itself many times, over the ages. I believe it will again and again.
3 Ways to remain in relevant in a digital world:
1. Put Curiosity over fear
Once we begin to learn about something, fear melts away. Learn about artificial intelligence and other technologies. Dig into online information, courses, or books. Find a technology convention that you can attend and ask exhibitors to show you how the various solutions work.
2. Assess impact
Consider how any new technology can help your organization recruit, retain, and develop much needed talent. Assess how it can free up your team to be able to perform more value-added tasks.
3. Be proactive and build a case
Instead of hiding from new technology and resisting inevitable change, consider a proactive approach. If you find there is a benefit to adopting any new technology, build a business case for change.
If your organization doesn’t have the budget or leadership willing to adopt a new way of doing things, at least you’ve grown through the process. Change is inevitable and you will be ready.
