This sweet little lady, Megan, visited me while I was enjoying a walk Canyon Lake here in Rapid City, SD. Megan is a sable Shetland Sheep Dog (Sheltie) who out of the blue ran up to me joyfully allowed me to pet her. The owners and I were astonished. It is unusual for the Sheltie breed because they are typically shy and frequently bark at others not in their path. But Megan ran up to me joyfully without restraint and a big smile on her sweet face.

This experience with Megan was quite memorable for me. I had lost two shelties among other losses in 2020 which made this experience stand out in both my mind and heart that day at the lake. Now I frequently think of returning to Canyon Lake with the hope of seeing Megan again.

Many people today are looking for experiences that have meaning.

Over the last couple of years we've all learned the hard way...life is short. Treasure it.

Authentic experiences matter more than ever.

As a leader, if you want to attract and retain people ask yourself...what does your organization offer in terms of meaningful experiences that will appeal to the heart beyond the numbers on a spreadsheet?

What is it about your employee engagement tactics that will compel people to even want come back?

Those answers are what will lead you to effective approaches to attracting and retaining people in today's reality.

How do you build "Megans" into your organizational culture that will meet people at the heart level, and ultimately attract and retain people?

Tell me in the comments...what are you doing to authentically appeal to the heart?
