Getting Bored: Turn Your Employees Training Into A Game

When you are about to introduce a new product in your company, the standard thing to do is to ensure that first your employees are effectively trained and have the basics about the product. There are several other reasons as to why you keep your employees into regular training. If you want to improve the performance levels of your team, include professional development or certification training. The training, however, does not always go as you plan and you feel bored between the sessions. If your employees are the type of people with a short concentration span, you should consider including games as part of your training.

Introducing games in your training keeps your employees focused with a higher concentration span. After every training session, instead of bringing in a new topic, getting your team engaged in a game for the same issue gives them a better understanding of the same. Here are a few ways to turn your training into a game and improved the productivity and retention of your team.

  1. Engage them actively

Let your team know that they are in control of the action. Instead of dishing them with information direct for storybooks and other training materials, let them make the rules of the game as they maintain your storyline. Allow your team to make mistakes and correct them in a way that they will understand how it should be done. Keeping your team engaged on the subject matter in a game form ensures that they don’t forget on the valuable tips about the subject topic. Another better way to keep your employees engaged is by allowing them to pick characters on the game. Let them control the way they will overcome obstacles that may prevent them from getting the ultimate goal of the product.

Teamwork and cooperation are the key to success. If your employees play together, they will be able to understand the outcome of the game manually. It will be easy for them to provide constructive criticism, define distinct roles and in return develop a unified vision for the company. Collaborations also help in covering up for the weak employees who have a lower retention capability.

A game with different levels and stages is exciting. The more you make your game enjoyable and twisted gives your team focus and a high retention span. Different levels will guide your employees through various segments of content. At the beginning keep your team informed of how many levels your game has and how many they should achieve for them to be rewarded. Additionally, ensure that each one of them learns the objectives of the game for them to work on achieving the highest score.

Let your team select a friend to complete with. Your leaderboard should be impactful and straightforward. Let them see relative positions of their friends displayed indicating their score with an average range below or above the learner's score. Additionally, ensure that your team has corresponding information to attain the highest scores on the leaderboard. This way, you will be able to maintain their enthusiasm and attitude towards the entire training session.

The essence of the training is to keep your team engaged and focused on the subject matter. Give your team an open place to interact with your content. Allow them to add incentives by searching for characters and treasures within the storyline. Find local examples that directly involve the particular team you are training with appropriate information about the subject matter.

Training at times means getting your employees away from their ordinary jurisdiction of work. Therefore, you must ensure that they don’t feel wasted or undermined by the type of games you involve in the training. Additionally, learn the capability of your team and divide them into sections that meet their various ability. Ensure that your team of trainers is also certified and well versed in the subject matter. This way, your team will feel the need of attending the sessions throughout the training period and enjoy every aspect therein. Finally, keep your games short and based on the key factors you wish to drive home.
